WYSA Recreational "REC" Soccer Program

Our Recreational program is open to players entering Kindergarten thru 6th grade who just enjoy the game. At the recreational level everyone plays equally, and emphasis is placed on learning basic skills and nurturing the love of the game and to have fun. This program has two seasons, fall and spring. Spring only registration will open in March.
In this program we hope to:

Provide a positive environment for children entering grades K - 6th to learn the game of soccer
Promote health, exercise and good character through soccer
Focus on player development that allows each player to reach his or her desired potential
Provide financial assistance if needed, so no child is unable to participate due to financial concerns

Registration

The Fall registration period runs from Mid July- Early August.
Late fees ($25.00) apply if registered after August 1st.
After the registration period, players will be added if space is available.
Please register early to ensure your spot.

Rec Soccer Seasons

WYSA 2024 Fall season will begin September 2nd, weather depending. Season will run through October 3rd.

**Our unpredictable weather may require some adjustment of dates. If dates are adjusted, cancelled or rescheduled, an email blast will be sent out and the website will be updated. Please check WYSA website for updates. Emails will be sent to both parents listed in Stack Sports, please confirm that both parents are listed and that both email addresses are up to date to ensure that you receive all updates!

Fees

Refund Policy

It is the policy of the Watertown Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) to refund program fees less a $5 processing fee, prior to the registration deadline date. Refund requests made after the deadline date are refundable at 50 percent of the program fees. After program starts, NO refunds will be given except for injury or illness. No Late Fees or Fundraising Fees will be refunded. A refund request for medical purposes must be accompanied with written note from attending physician. All refund requests must be emailed to director@watertownsoccer.com or mailed to WYSA PO Box 556, Watertown, SD 57201. The WYSA Executive Board has the right to alter policy based on circumstances. Refund request form is available on the website www.watertownsoccer.com in the document library.

Coaches

Equipment

All players must have shin guards.
All players should bring the appropriate sized soccer ball. Coaches are provided a few extra soccer balls but do not have enough for every player.
- Kindergarten - 2nd Grade - Size 3 Ball
- 3rd-6th Grade - Size 4 Ball
- WYSA recommends putting your players name on the soccer ball.
Shoes
- Soccer cleats are not required but strongly encouraged.
- Comfortable athletic shoes will work.
- Players cannot use softball, baseball, or football cleats. The design/layout of the cleats are different and not appropriate for the soccer field.
- WYSA has several used cleats that have been donated by families.
  - The cleats can be located at the ANZA Soccer Complex Clubhouse.
  - There is no cost for these cleats.
  - You can use them and return them at the end of the season.
- If your player has out grown their current cleats, you are welcome to trade them in for a larger size or simply donate the old pair to help another player out.
Shirt
- Each participant will receive a Team t-shirt as part of the registration fee.
- Shirts need to be worn each night.
- Team shirts are handed out in the Fall season and will be used in the following Spring season.
  - Players who register for only the Spring season or missed the Fall season will be provided a shirt on the first night of the Spring season.
- Coaches will have the team shirts with them at the fields for the first night of the season.
- If your player has misplaced or outgrown their shirt, a new one can be purchased for $10.

Goalie Equipment
- WYSA does not provide specific equipment for goalies in our Recreational program.
- Players who are interested in playing goalie may consider purchasing goal keeper gloves.

Communication

Code of Conduct

The code of conduct applies to any/all individuals involved in soccer including but not limited to players, parents, coaches, referees, volunteer and paid staff. The intent of this code is to protect the welfare of the youth in our program. Individuals described above are role models and must conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. All persons shall obey the code of conduct while traveling to and/or participating in any WYSA sponsored activity. Violation may result in an ineligibility to play, coach, referee or perform any function associated with the program. The WYSA Board of Directors has final say in all matters of discipline.

Display good sportsmanship at all times
Represent themselves, their family, and their team with honor and dignity
Not argue, harass, use profanity or degrading language
Refrain from abusive verbal or physical gestures to evoke confrontation
Utilize a 24-hour cool down period before confronting any official, coach or administrator

Overview:

Our Competitive program is for those players and families who want more from soccer and are willing to make the sport a major priority in their lives. The program offers players the opportunity to visit other soccer hotbeds around the area, and to compete against some of the region's top competition. The distinguishing quality between our Recreational program and our Competitive program is the level of commitment involved.

Players are expected to train and travel more than recreational players do. This program offers some great skill and player development as our players are all getting coaching from licensed coaches. Players will train 2 times per week for U9-U12 and 3 times a week for U13-U19.

Program Purpose

The purpose of this program is to provide advanced training and competition for those players who enjoy the sport and desire to deepen their involvement with it. By offering this more competitive program we aim to:

Capture our more committed players by offering them opportunities to train and play,
Increase participation at more competitive levels by increasing the depth of teaching,
Build a consistent stream of teams training and traveling at competitive levels by adopting this program into our soccer culture. In other words, this will become our club/competitive program.

Commitment

All WYSA programs operate on two levels of commitment, WYSA's commitment to the player/family, and the player's/family's commitment to the program.

Player's/Family's Commitment - We understand that many of our kids participate in other sports. We don't want to deny a child's opportunity to play all the sports they enjoy. Therefore, we do not expect that every player attends every training session and/or event. Dates for all three seasons have been listed below to aid families in planning and determination of participation commitment. Please note that Winter and Spring/Summer dates are approximate.

WYSA's Commitment - This program holds a central focus on player development. No player will be penalized due to a lack of performance or understanding. WYSA is committed to ensuring that all players be afforded the opportunity to learn and develop their soccer prowess through training sessions as well as game play. We strive to develop teams that are competitive and players who exemplify hard work, discipline, teamwork, dedication, and a positive selfless attitude. It is expected that players always give consistent effort and demonstrate sportsmanship to maintain their opportunities to participate in trainings and events.

***Additional tournaments may be added and would carry an additional fee for each player

Tournament fees will be added to your account at least 2 weeks prior to each tournament and should be paid by Friday the week before the tournament. Late fees will be added to accounts the Saturday prior to the tournament for any unpaid fees for that specific tournament. You will be able to login and pay by credit card.

PLEASE NOTE: All tournament fees MUST be paid no later than Friday of the week prior to the event to be eligible to participate!!

Uniform Fees

Players purchase or rent uniforms. Uniforms will cost $165.
- Uniform kit includes
  - Two tops
  - One pair of shorts
  - Two pairs of socks
  - Two training shirts
Additional socks are $10.
Replacement uniforms will be at full price plus shipping ($175).
Uniform rental is available for $10 per event and purchase socks for $10.
- If rental uniform is damaged or discolored, you will be charged up to $165 for a replacement uniform.

Volunteer Requirements

A parent/guardian or their designee (must be over 18) is expected to fulfill 10 volunteer hours per child playing Competitive Soccer. We have many volunteering opportunities, such as:

4th of July Firework Show Concessions

Team managers will collect a volunteer deposit check for $250 for each Competitive player. Families with multiple Competitive players may write 1 check that includes the $250 deposit for each child participating.

Example: 2 players playing Competitive Soccer, 1 check for $500 may be submitted. Volunteer deposit checks will be shredded if all volunteer requirements have been fulfilled. If volunteer requirements have not been fulfilled, your deposit check will be cashed.
